One of our favorite parts of a new year is discovering what the new hot trends will be in home design. Whether you are looking to buy a new home, redecorate your home, renovate your home, or simply love looking at home decor, home design inspiration for 2022 is very likely on your radar as it is on ours. As we inch closer to 2022, we have been on the hunt for what the latest trends may be. Here are eight home décor trends for 2022 that stood out.

Going Green – Part 1

If, like us, you have been watching the 2022 Colors of the Year from the various paint and design companies, you probably have noticed one big trend: the color green. From Sherwin-Williams (Evergreen Fog) to PPG (Olive Sprig) to Better Homes & Gardens (Laurel Leaf) and others, green hues are predicted to be THE way to go in your 2022 home designs.

Going Green – Part 2

One reason green pain may be so popular is because it harkens to nature, and incorporating nature into your design is another super-hot trend for the coming year. Biophilic design – the concept of bringing nature to your indoor spaces – has been a hot trend over the past couple of years, and experts expect that to continue in 2022. Biophilic design can take the form of natural lighting and ventilation and/or the presence of plants in the form of potted plants, hanging plants, or living walls. The primary idea behind biophilic design is to create a calming, more natural environment that promotes better health.

Texture, Texture, Texture

Of all the 2022 design trends we found, the one mentioned most often was texture. Taking a cue from fashion design, where layers and texture are everywhere right now, interior designers are looking for cozy, textured fabrics to incorporate into their designs in 2022. Said one designer to Better Homes & Gardens, “Anything furry, nubby, or cozy” will be popular. The soft materials will bring a sense of comfort and, depending on which you use, luxury to any space. But texture is not just limited to things like furniture, pillows, throws, and rugs. Textural treatments on walls are also making their way into home design more and more.

Curved Lines

Rounded details began popping up increasingly in 2021, and experts say not only will that trend continue but it will expand in 2022. Don’t believe us? Pinterest’s trend report for 2022 specifically called out curves in home design, citing surges in searches for curved walls and living room couches. How can you incorporate this in your home? In addition to the aforementioned curved walls and couches, add curves to millwork and look for curved designs in tile, flooring, fabrics, and other materials.

Multifunctional Spaces

It’s no secret that COVID has changed the way we live, and while some are returning to more normal work schedules, at-home and hybrid work don’t seem to be going away entirely. Flexible live/work spaces continue to be one of the big needs and wants for families. Designers say people will continue to look for versatility in their spaces in 2022.

Going Vintage

Whether it’s trying to get around supply chain issues or wanting to be more eco-friendly or just liking the look, vintage is definitely going to be one of the hottest trends of 2022. Vintage also allows you to have a more unique look that can be less expensive than new options. One thing the experts agree on is you do not have to go 100 percent vintage in a space. Mixing with more modern pieces works very well.

Black Accents

Black accents and hardware have been becoming increasingly popular in homes, and that is expected to be especially true in 2022. House Beautiful says it’s a great way to add some edge and depth to more minimalist spaces.

Warm Neutrals

You may have noticed in recent years that cooler neutrals like gray and white have been dominating home design, but according to designers that Better Homes & Gardens spoke with, that is expected to change in 2022: “I predict that we’ll see the resurgence of warmer color palettes and a subtle shift back to creams, beiges, and nudes.” One reason goes back to the reason green is the color for 2022: these colors feel earthier and more natural. Another designer also called out blush as a go-to neutral for 2022.
