Whether you’re selecting for your new home with Liberty Homes or are looking to update a current home, finding the right paint color can be challenging. Neutral colors like whites, beiges, creams, grays, browns, and blacks are go-to’s for many because of the ease of decorating around them. But what if you want to try something different while also having a neutral feel? Here are a few alternatives to traditional neutral colors that may work well in your space.

Pink

When we say pink, we’re not talking the 1980s era hot pink that almost makes you want to put on sunglasses. We’re talking about muted pinks like blush, powder, and rose. Depending on the undertones and saturation of pink in the color you choose, it could very easily be considered a neutral in its own right.

Soft Green

Colors can evoke psychological reactions, and green is one that evoke calm, soothing emotions and a feeling of being connected to nature. That is especially true with soft shades of green. For this reason, soft greens are a great option for bedrooms, bathrooms, or any other room where relaxing is top of mind.

Blue

Another color that is tied to nature is blue, and there are many great options. From pale and powdery to silvery to darker hues that are green- or grey-tinged, finding a blue you love shouldn’t be too much of a challenge.

Lavender

Purple may not be the first color to pop into your mind as an alternative to neutrals, but pale lavenders or shades with gray undertones can be a great option for any room.

Terracotta

Want to go a little bolder in your choice? Terracotta is another solid choice as a neutral alternative. This orange-based color is warm and soothing at the same time. Soft shades with peach or brown undertones work best.

Choosing the Right Color and Shade for You

As with any paint color you are considering for your space, it’s best to get swatches or a sample size of that color. Tape the swatches or paint a patch with the sample paint, then look at the color at different times of days and in different lights. This will give you a sense of what the color will look like in your room and in different light conditions.
